Aboard the merchant vessel, the crew were surprised by Loyola's appearance and debated what to do with him. While they discussed it, they threw him in a cage in the hold where he met Chicory, a caged familiar who begged for freedom and safe passage back to Xirath across the sea. The two prisoners formed a friendship, the frog promising to teach Loyola his secret Toad Fighting Forms and the mysteries of the World Toad who dwells within.
When they arrived in Silver City, Loyola stole Chicory from the merchants, causing a headlong chase through the city.
